At approximately 12:53 a.m., a Georgia State Patrol trooper was traveling on GA 253 near Mile Marker 15 in Decatur County. The trooper observed a vehicle stopped in the southbound lane of the roadway and deer laying in the northbound lane of the roadway. The Trooper stopped in an attempt to render aid and investigate a possible crash.
While the Trooper was notifying the GSP radio room of a possible deer crash, he observed a 2010 Blue Nissan Altima traveling north on GA 253 approaching the crash scene. The Altima drove through the crash scene and over the deer.
The Trooper attempted to stop the vehicle in order to notify the driver of the deer strike and ascertain why he drove through the crash scene in a reckless manner. The driver accelerated and refused to stop. The Altima continued traveling North on GA 253 and attempted to negotiate a curve at a high rate of speed. The Altima left the roadway and struck a tree.
Both occupants of the Altima were deceased on scene. It was determined that seatbelts were not in use at the time of the crash.
The driver was identified as Markieth Vason Chrispen (25) from Bainbridge.
The passenger was identified as Brian Rashad Sanders (27) from Bainbridge.
