A variety of emotions were felt Wednesday afternoon when Memories Car Club presented patients at Bainbridge Health and Rehab with boxes of TastyKake holiday cookies.
When asked “why are you doing this?” by many of the patients, car club president, Denise Webb told them that the elderly are one of their greatest gifts.
Many of the patients told her they didn’t have anything to give her, but Webb told them, simply being there and making the community the place it is today was enough.
Betty Hardee teared up at those words, exclaiming she’s never been told that “being here” was enough.
Many members at the center have family members from out of town and often only see them once or twice a year. To have someone bring them a box of cookies, who they have never met seemed unimaginable to them.
However, the patients were more than grateful and smiled wanting pictures of them and their friends with their cookie boxes.
Webb reminds everyone that the elders shaped the men and women of the future, so even if it’s something small take them something and visit with them during the holidays.
