Shirley Branch Fleming, 74, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2017.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Karl Kling officiating. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery with Mills Brock, Peanut Enfinger, Son Toole, Fields Varner, Johnny Reynolds and Matt Palmer serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church. Online visitors may sign the guest register at

Shirley Ann Branch was born July 22, 1943, in Savannah, Ga., the daughter of T. O. and Blanche Shehan Branch. Her father died during World War II and his brother, Troy, lovingly accepted the honor of taking Blanche as his wife and Shirley as his daughter. She was a graduate of West Bainbridge High School and Perry Business School. Shirley worked for a while as a supervisor with Barnett Bank in Jacksonville, Fla. and was a real estate broker with Fleming Properties.

Family was very important to Shirley and genealogy was her passion . She loved to travel and had many fond memories of beach trips with her children and grandchildren. Shirley also enjoyed fishing and gardening. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, President of Decatur County Genealogical Society and Administrator of the Southwest Georgia Family Tree/DNA Project.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, William L. “Bill” Fleming, Sr.; her children, Bill Fleming, Jr. and his wife, Laura, of Columbus, Ga. and Kristi Fleming Poole and her husband, Tony, of Marietta, Ga.; and her grandchildren, DiAnna, Sarah, Merissa, Christopher and Charlotte. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents T. O. Branch and Troy and Blanche Branch.
