Private graveside funeral services for Dr. James Craig Higginbotham, 68, of Bainbridge, Ga., will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, Ga. Rev. Rod Brinkley will officiate. Dr. Higginbotham passed away at his home in Bainbridge, on Thursday, November 9, 2017.

Dr. Higginbotham was born on March 7, 1949, in Jacksonville, Fla., to the late James C. Higginbotham and Geneva Turner Higginbotham. A graduate of Bainbridge High School and Valdosta State University, he went on to serve as a Georgia State Trooper. From there he proceeded to pursue his passion of medicine and graduated as a Physician’s Assistant from the Medical College of Georgia, and later as a Doctor from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He practiced medicine at Grady Primary Care in Cairo, with his longtime friend and business partner, Dr. Andy Dekle and was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include: children, James Chad Higginbotham (Angie) of Fort Wayne, Ind., Amy Higginbotham Hume of Ozark, Ala., Joshua Ryan Higginbotham of Cairo, Ashley Higginbotham Weed (Troy) of Troy, Ala.; grandchildren, Quint Hume of Ozark, Elizabeth Gay of Troy, Kinley Higginbotham of Fort Wayne, Brantley Higginbotham of Fort Wayne, Mary Thomas Weed of Troy; brother, John Higginbotham (Kathy) of Cairo; nephews, Scott Higginbotham of Tallahassee, Fla., Seth Higginbotham of Cairo; and special friends, Joe Moye of Donalsonville, Ga., Lisa McLendon of Cordele, Ga., Brenda Harrell of Cairo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Donna Higginbotham.

The family received friends at the home of John and Kathy Higginbotham on Sunday, November 12, 2017, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
