The boys and girls seventh grade basketball teams got their seasons off to a hot start as both went on to beat Washington Middle School last week.
The Bearcats won 42-27 and the Lady Cats beat the Lady Tigers 21-6.
Leading the scoring for the Bearcats was Jafus Ferguson with 11 points, Dontavius Broadnax and K.J. Cochran with 8 points apiece, Henry Hill with 7 points, Kedrick Bryant with 4 points and Amari Ford and Ahmari Borden concluded the scoring with 2 points apiece.
Coach Patrick Clark said this was a strong game for the Bearcats considering it was the first of the season. There’s always room for improvement, though.
“We still need to reduce our number of turnovers and make free throws to better our chances of winning ball games,” Clark said. “Our goal for the season is to go undefeated and I really think we have a special group of players to accomplish this feat.”
The seventh grade basketball teams will play their next game Wednesday, Nov. 8, against Thomas County Central in Thomasville.
