From birth, she was described as a peculiar child. At the age of 14, she received the gift of the Holy Ghost at the First Born Church in Climax, (now known as Greater Mt. Calvary, FBC).

At the age of 21, she was called into ministry. With grace and elegance, she lived her life as one set aside, serving in ministry for over 48 years. Preaching, teaching, and living the gospel of Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the power of Salvation. She selflessly served in the community and the church; touching the lives of many far and near; especially hearts in minds associated with the Church of God In Christ (Jerusalem & Bartow District), the First Born Church of the Living God (Tri-State Diocese, Mid-South Diocese, New Millennium Diocese), Church of God, Inc. (Bainbridge Faith Temple Ministries), Bethel Ministries, Star Bethlehem Baptist Church, and Lily Hill Baptist Church.

Lillie was the loving wife of one husband, Mr. Mack Arthur James, Sr., for over 52 years. Together they created and reared eight children whom she affectionately called her flowers: Mack Arthur James, Jr. (Gayla), Angela Anita James Graham (Chimela), Daniel Lamar James, Doris Loretta James Weaver (Raymond), Jacqueline Lana James Harris (Rochell), Bobby Lance James (Felicia), Ben Harlan James, and Jessica Crystal James Alston (Erie). They nurtured 26 living grandchildren, one granddaughter who preceeded her in death (Mackel James), and 10 living great-grandchildren.

Her husband, flowers, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, six living sisters (spouses), four living brothers (spouses), and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins will infinitely love and honor Lillie.

A service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Greater Mt. Calvary FBC in Climax, GA at 11 a.m.
