Thursday night parent, Shamira Herring was honored for dedication in helping the school in any way necessary and accepted into the State School Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council.
The State School Superintendent for a number of years has developed a parent advisory council where he solicits parents from all over the state. Nominees are submitted and then voted upon to join the council.
Jeanette Grimsley, principal of Potter Street Elementary described Herring as an awesome parent.
“We can call at 7 a.m. or 6 p.m. in the evening and she will say ‘yes Mrs. Grimsley.’ I can call her or Mrs. Haire can and we just really appreciate everything she does,” Grimsley said.
Assistant principal, Delores Haire agreed, saying that everyone can recognize the value of having an active parent in the school.
“When it became a question for who we would nominate for Superintendent Woods Parent Advisory Council, there was no question it was Shamira,” Haire said.
Both Haire and Grimsley agree that Herring will represent Potter Street Elementary and Decatur County with excellence.
Herring said she was honored to receive the award and looks forward to getting a better understanding and getting more parents involved and become active in the school.
Herring is the mother to two boys, and eight-year-old and a nine-year-old and is excited to improve upon their experience in any way possible.
