William Thomas Gibbs

William Thomas Gibbs died Saturday morning, October 14, 2017, at his residence in Ty Ty.

Tommy Gibbs was born March 14, 1936, in Ty Ty, son of Henry Clayton and Mary Matilda Clark Gibbs; paternal grandson of John Elijah Thomas and Sarah Ann Willis Gibbs and maternal grandson of William Alexander and Annie Rebecca Monk Clark.

Mr. Gibbs was a 1958 graduate of the University of Georgia and retired from Applebee-Church, Inc. in 1998.  He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and First Families of Georgia.

He is survived by his wife, Carole Hester Gibbs; his daughter and son-in-law, Austin and Mary Clayton Gibbs Kennedy of Savannah and their daughters, Mary Falls Kennedy of New York City, Carole Sara Kennedy and Clara Gibbs Kennedy, both of Atlanta; and by his son, William Earl Gibbs and fiancé, Cathleen Foster of Portland, Oregon.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. John Sykes Gibbs officiating.  Family and friends are invited to the Gibbs home afterwards.  Interment will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brother Charlie’s Rescue Center, P. O. Box 7712, Tifton, GA 31793.
