Rheta Leverett Skolaut, age 83, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at her residence at The Forest at Duke. Rheta was born in Parrott, Ga. to the late John H. and Lottie Lou Smith Leverett on April 21, 1934.

She was a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy and was a registered pharmacist in Georgia, Florida, Maryland, Illinois and North Carolina. Rheta was a member on numerous boards and organizations but was most proud of her 17-year board affiliation with the Duke Children’s Classic where she chaired the Spouses Program for 16 years.

A resident of The Forest at Duke since 1992, Rheta served on The Forest at Duke board and the Residents Association board. Her other board and committee responsibilities at The Forest are too numerous to mention.

Rheta authored several cookbooks and enjoyed extensive travel with her late husband, Milton W. Skolaut, who died in 2005. They were both members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Durham.

Rheta is survived by her sister, Carolyn Kelly (Harold) of Bainbridge, Ga.; step-son, Milton W. Skolaut, Jr.; step-daughter, Barbara Ann Skolaut; nephews, Dean Davis (Mary Gail); Dwayne Kelly (Margaret); nieces, Gloria Davis Lindsay (Don); Eloise Davis; and Marvelyn Kelly Smith (Terry).

She was preceded in death by her sister, Grace Leverett Davis; brother, Earl Leverett; nephews, Tom Davis and Calvin Leverett; and niece, Dianne Leverett.

Graveside services in Maplewood Cemetery will be private. Friends may visit Friday evening, October 20, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main St. in Durham, N.C.
