Stacey Cunningham and Garrett Smith couldn’t wait for Monday morning to arrive; Monday was the opening of their newly built SmithCo Recycling location.

Previously, SmithCo Recycling could only handle about 30-35 customers a day, but now with a new drive on scale they will be able to handle up to 100 people a day.

“We were really looking forward to having a drive on scale,” Cunningham said. “It saves a tremendous amount of time, what used to take us about 30 minutes will now take about five.”

SmithCo Recycling’s new building allows bigger loads and up to semi loads. They can accept things from farmer’s loads and residential loads as well. Cunningham believes this new location will also be more efficient because it is closer to town and doesn’t force people to have to drive all the way out towards the airport.

The new location also has three different bailers, which squish all the materials down to be shipped out.

Cunningham said she is very thankful for the support of the community and can’t wait for an official ribbon cutting.

Smithco Recycling’s new location is 1009 Avenue C, Bainbridge, Ga. 39819, and accepts copper, aluminum, brass, carpet pad, automotive scrap, e-scrap, batteries, wire, junk cars and all types of scrap metal. They can be reached at 229-220-1582 to schedule a pickup.
