Carl D. “Cotton” Jackson, 74, of Tallahassee, Fla., formerly of Attapulgus, Ga., passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017.

The graveside funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017, at Attapulgus Cemetery with Rev. John Dallas officiating.

Carl Douglas “Cotton” Jackson was born May 5, 1943, in Bainbridge, Ga., the son of James William Jackson and Josephine Parham Jackson. He was a graduate of Attapulgus High School, Class of 1961. He retired from the Leon County Tax Collectors Office.

Cotton was quite a jokester. He loved people and people loved him. He enjoyed fishing and was an accomplished golfer. Cotton could also cut a rug when he wasn’t doing his best Elvis impersonation during karaoke hour.

Survivors include his daughter, Tena Jackson of Vermont; his siblings, Billy Jackson and his wife, Miriam, of Texas, Charles Jackson and his wife, Lorraine, of Northville, Ala., Enid Borders and her husband, Ernie, of Panama City, Fl., Mary Jo Clark of Pompano Beach, Fla. and Catherine Smith of Gainesville, Fla.; his granddaughter, Hannah Jackson of Tallahassee; and several nieces and nephews. Cotton was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, James Jackson, Mason Jackson, Geraldine McCarty and Royce Jackson.
