Hot off a strong weekend tournament in LaGrange, the Lady Cats softball team returned to Bainbridge for their home opener against Worth County. Unfortunately, the Lady Cats were on the wrong end of a 2-0 game.

Freshman Lexie Delbrey started in the circle, pitching all seven innings and throwing a strong 11 strikeouts. She only allowed two hits, one earned, and walked three batters.

Worth County grabbed the lead immediately in the top of the first inning, and held onto the 1-0 score until they could add another run in the top of the sixth.

The Lady Cats were cold at the plate, facing a strong pitcher who only walked two and struck out 12. She allowed no hits in her seven innings in the circle.

The Lady Rams totaled two hits throughout the game. Both teams had one error.

The game was a fast one, with both teams mainly striking out, grinding out or flying out to keep the innings rolling by quickly.

A string of bad luck in the sixth inning kept Bainbridge from getting on the board. Desirae Beachem was walked with one out when Mabry Grace Briggs, one of Bainbridge’s best batters, came to the plate. She hit a pop fly and Worth County turned it into a double play, throwing out Beachem at first.

Bainbridge will play in the Watermelon Invitational in Cordele this weekend, then return home to host Valdosta next Tuesday at 5 p.m. and Thomasville next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
