Penelope Baggs was born September 29, 1946, in Savannah, Ga., the daughter of Mercer Robert Baggs and Vivian Evans Baggs. Penny married the love of her life, Julian Gerard Kwilecki III after her college graduation and made her home in Bainbridge.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Penny was known for getting things done. Her career in education spanned decades and influenced students of all ages and stages. Penny served as a math facilitator and middle grades teacher at various locations including Elcan-King Elementary, John Johnson Elementary, and Hutto Jr. High School in Decatur County, and later at Southside Elementary and Washington Middle School in Grady County. After her retirement from Grady County Schools, Penny worked at the Senior Center where she found another niche to satisfy her caring spirit. A care giver at heart, Penny spent her life tending to things: her garden, her family, her students, the elderly and of course, her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Gerard Kwilecki, III; her children, Vivian K. Sapp and her husband, Chris, of Cairo, Ga., Gerard Kwilecki, IV and his wife, Deanna, of Jackson, Ala. and Christopher Kwilecki and his wife, Lori, of Tampa, Fla.; her sister, Betty Grace Sport of Pensacola, Fla.; and her grandchildren, Caylee, William, Carson, Bryant, Olivia and Jack. Penny was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Robert Baggs and William Baggs.
