Bainbridge State College announced Tuesday that Southern Regional Technical College in Thomasville is expected to acquire BSC’s land, facilities and capital equipment.
The Board of Regents of University System of Georgia Board and the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia will act on resolutions over the next week that will likely lead to the transfer of land, facilities and capital equipment of the BSC campus in Bainbridge to Southern Regional Technical College and the Technical College System of Georgia.
This acquisition is part of the planning process for the consolidation of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and BSC. Southern Regional Technical College will offer technical and adult education programs on the Bainbridge Campus and ABAC will offer academic programs on the Bainbridge Campus.
The State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia will take action on the resolutions at its meeting on Thursday, and the Board of Regents will take action on them next Tuesday, Aug. 8.
According to a press release from BSC, interim president Stuart Rayfield, ABAC President David Bridges and Southern Regional Technical College President Craig Wentworth will continue to work cooperatively to meet the educational needs of the region.
The proposed change will not affect the ownership of land, facilities, and capital equipment in Donalsonville or Blakely, the release said.
Rayfield declined to comment on the acquisition until the respective boards have voted on the resolutions. More information will be reported when these governing bodies act.
