J.T. Bryars was born February 23, 1926, in Perdido, Alabama, the son of Joseph Pendleton Bryars and Fannie Mae White Bryars. J.T. married the love of his life, Edna Pope, in 1945, and made his home in Bainbridge. Blondie worked as a drag line operator at Englehard until his retirement.

J.T. was an authentic Christian who practiced his faith daily in the way he cared for anyone in need. He was quite a character and very much set in his ways. If you saw the blue Chevrolet truck, and in recent years the green ‘94 Ford Tempo, coming down the road you knew J.T. was on a mission. Known as “Port City #1 Mud Flap” on his CB, J.T. kept up with the comings and goings in Decatur County. His friends at Hardee’s, “Carter’s Chicken House” and Yesterday’s Diner filled a void left by his wife, “Sug”. Mr. J.T., “We’re gone and we’re clear.”

Survivors include his grandchildren, Wendy Bryars Baggett and her husband, Brian, and Mark Bryars and Sally Clark; his daughter-in-law, Tricia Bryars; and his great-grandchildren, Jessica Donaldson, Scottie Donaldson and Sunshine Welch-Bryars, all of Tallahassee. J.T. was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Edna Pope Bryars; his son, Paul Bryars; his parents; and his siblings, Leona Bryars Ramer, Jessie Mae Bryars Barnes, Bernice Bryars Chavers, Ethel Bryars Wiggins, Thelma Bryars Quinley, Melba Bryars Salter, Leslie Bryars, Gasque Bryars, James Bryars, Truman Bryars, Trammel Bryars and Clifton Bryars.
