Southwest GYSTC Regional Coordinator Tammy Nowell and teachers from Calhoun, Decatur, Grady, Mitchell, Sumter, Thomas, and Worth Counties accept the $10,000 contribution from the Thomas M. Irene B. Kirbo Charitable Foundation at GYSTC’s 2017 Excellence in Science Teaching Symposium for Educators.

The Georgia Youth Science and Technology Centers, Inc. (GYSTC) received a $10,000 contribution from the Thomas M. and Irene B. Kirbo Charitable Foundation to provide science related programs to the teachers and students of Southwest Georgia. The donation was designated for the Southwest GYSTC (SWGYSTC) located at Bainbridge State College.

SWGYSTC opened in 1995 with the vision and leadership of Rolfe Hunt, Ralph Powell, Jr. and the late Dr. Edward Mobley to grow the technological workforce in Southwest Georgia. These great leaders saw the need to help broaden the job pipeline by encouraging students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) related fields.

Today, the local SWGYSTC Board of Directors works directly with superintendents, curriculum directors, teachers and students of Calhoun, Decatur, Grady, Mitchell and Thomas County Schools, and the Southwest Georgia community to improve, promote, and facilitate state-of-the-art supplemental STEM education.
