Carolyn J. Smith, 82, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ron McCaskill officiating. Interment will follow at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery with Jesse Griffin, J.R. Smith, Sammy Smith, Joshua Smith, Ben Eakin and Tommy Summerhill serving as active pallbearers.

Carolyn Jane Earnest was born March 3, 1935, in Decatur County, the daughter of Ora Williford Earnest and Mary Romelle Valentine Earnest. Carolyn was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. For several years, she worked retail sales and secretarial work until her retirement. She loved gospel music and attending gospel sings. She also loved word search puzzles and her “stories” on TV. She was never hesitant to speak her mind with her family. She loved fishing and camping, going to the mountains and enjoyed cook-outs. Anyone that knew her, knew she had an amazing owl collection and she would share her fascination with anyone that wanted to see them.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, C.M. Smith; her children, Vicky Summerhill, Roger Smith and his wife, Tana, and Mary Lee Smith all of Bainbridge; her grandchildren, Carmen Summerhill, Cathy Smith and her husband, Sammy, Gina Furst, Tommy Summerhill and his wife, Cindy, Michelle Griffin, Jesse Griffin and his wife, Dana, J.R. Smith, Meagan Herndon and her husband, Jaston, and Joshua Smith; and her great-grandchildren, Raegan Griffin, Morris Smith, Ellie Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Iola Vickers, Christine Josey, and Sarah Howard.
