Sarah Evelyn Holland Shaw, 94, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017.

The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Medley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery with her grandchildren serving as active pallbearers.

Mrs. Shaw was born February 4, 1923, in Pearson, Ga., the daughter of Vivian Holland and Mae Bell Kilgore Holland. She was a graduate of Mystic High School and attended one semester of college at Georgia College for Women in Milledgeville, Ga. Mrs. Shaw was a Past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 267, a member of American Legion Post 62 Auxiliary, and a member of the Ladies of Nassau Shriners Organization for Women. She served as a cub scout leader, a Grey Lady at Bainbridge Memorial Hospital, and volunteered for the Decatur County Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Shaw was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 25 years.

Survivors include her children, Dwain Shaw and his wife, Leilani, of Evans, Ga., Jill Shaw of Bainbridge, Vernon Shaw, Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Bainbridge, and Tammy Connell and her husband, Tommy, of Faceville, Ga.; her siblings, Nerle Holland and his wife, Grace Earl, and Burnelle Holland, and his wife, Betty Jo, all of Fernadina Beach, Fla.; her grandchildren, Jennifer Shaw Knight of Greensboro, N.C., Derek Shaw of Whigham, Ga., Brookie Connell of Costa Rica, Rebecca Shaw Nix of Climax, Ga., and Thomas Connell of Tallahassee, Fla.; and her great-grandchildren, Shaw Knight, Cody Knight, Sarah Shaw, Peyten Nix, Annalisa Nix, Bella Nix, Lawren Love, Holland Shaw, Willa Kate Shaw and Gracie Jillian Connell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Vernon Thomas Shaw; and her siblings, Wilford Holland, Lottie Mae Ford and James Franklin Holland.
