On Wednesday, June 21, 2017, The Albany State University Athletic Department recognized Cervantes Jackson, who is a sophomore, for his accomplishment in track and Field for the 2017 School Track Season. Cervantes led the Albany State Rams Men to the SIAC Out Door Championship. He was also the Decathlon Winner for the 2016 and 2017 Track Seasons. The Decathlon required athletes to participate in the following events: 110 Hurdles, 100 Meter Dash, 400 Dash, Pole Vault, Discus, Shot Put, Long Jump, Triple Jump and Javelin.

Cervantes seasonal performances qualified him to participate in the Division II Nationals in the Triple Jump, High Jump and Long Jump. As a result of his excellent performances at the Nationals, He was recognized as a National Champion in the High Jump and Triple Jump finishing first places in these events.

He also finished 4th in the Long Jump.  Cervantes made history at Albany State by winning National Championships in two events.
