Thursday evening “Misty the Mermaid” swam in from Panama City, Fla. to swim and play pool games with some mini mermaids-in-training.
Ami Godby, pool manager at Bainbridge Country Club had approached President Bill Allen after seeing pictures of the mermaid on Facebook.
“The kids seem to be enthralled by her,” said Allen. “I think we should have her again in the fall.” This was the most kids at the pool Allen said he had seen in forever.
Nancy Griffin’s twins were two of the many young girls there excited to see Misty.
“My twins have been counting down the days,” said Griffin. “We even had to order special tales.”
Even the adults were excited; Godby said she (Misty) makes you want to be a little girl again.
Bainbridge Country Club pool is used to events. They host pool parties for members, and allow the public to lease the pool for class reunions and other various events, but said this is the first time they have had a mermaid.
Mother, Jessica Wynn was thankful member, Tish told her about the event and allowed her and her daughter to be a part of the real life mermaid event.
“My daughter loves mermaids and was super excited about meeting a real one,” said Wynn.
Naturally some of the kids had questions, such as, “How will she walk?” Luckily, the moms didn’t have to worry about answering the question, because Misty actually has a handler who helps her in and out of the pool and with her pool demonstrations.
If your child didn’t get to meet Misty this time, the Country Club plans to host her again before they close Labor Day weekend. After Labor Day, the pool will open on weekend basis. For more information about Misty or getting a membership you can contact BCC at 229-246-1986.
