Larry Wayne Avery, 55, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Monday, June 12, 2017.

The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Debra Boozer officiating.

Larry Wayne Avery was born March 21, 1962, in Climax, Ga., the son of Varnell Avery and Mary Magdalene Meredith Avery. Larry was a member of The Potter’s House and retired from Englehard with 26 years of service. Larry began his career at age 16, as the youngest employee hired by Miller Hydro.

Larry loved being outdoors. He enjoyed fishing or boating on any body of water. His need for speed fostered a passion for NASCAR. Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson could count on Larry to cheer them around the track to the winner’s circle. Nothing meant more to him than his grandchildren and Larry made it a point to spend time having fun with them.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Martha Odom Avery; his step- children, Sammy Sapp II and Robby Sapp, both of Bainbridge; his siblings, Meredith Avery and his wife, Joyce, of Climax, Linda Avery Donley and her husband, Chris, of Colquitt, Laura Avery, and Kay Smith and her husband, Jack, all of Bainbridge; and his grandchildren, Isaac, Michael, Samantha, Ciara, Caroline and Cale. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Alan Avery.
