BPS uncovers bag containing thousands of pills during domestic call

Bainbridge Public Safety Officer Timothy Shaw uncovered a bag containing thousands of pills while responding to a domestic dispute early Friday morning.

When Shaw arrived at the scene of the argument, he made contact with the stepchildren of Jock Josey, who said their stepfather was high and arguing with their mother.

“The kids tipped me off about the stepfather doing drugs,” Shaw said. “They knew about two bottles (of pills).”

The incident report says the kids found pills in Josey’s center console earlier.

While talking to Josey behind the residence, Shaw noted he was very jittery and would not stay still. During the conversation, Shaw spotted a black bag laying behind a bush within 10 feet of Josey’s vehicle. Inside the bag, Shaw found multiple pill bottles.

He said there were around 3,000 pills in total, ranging from sedatives such as clonazepam to methocarbamol, a muscle pain killer.

Because Shaw didn’t find the bag inside Josey’s residence or vehicle, he was only able to confiscate the bag containing the pills without an arrest.

“Even though I wasn’t able to charge him with it, I took a lot off the streets,” Shaw said. “It wasn’t in the car, it was out in the open in plain sight, so anybody could have put it there.”

The case is active and under investigation.
