Bainbridge Public Safety has partnered with the Decatur County Board of Education to promote a summer nutrition program for the second year in a row.

Kids N’ Kops will distribute lunches every weekday June 5-29 from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Joe Sweet Community Center on Potter Street.

“We want to make sure they’re getting the nutrition they need for the summer,” Sgt. David Cutchin said.

Wondering when Kids N’ Kops will come back to give them their next meal is one of the children’s main concerns, said Cutchin. For some of them, this is the only meal they will have all day.

The Decatur County School System nutritionist decides the menu; they are serving no junk. All the meals are sugar free and would be typical of what the students might eat for a school lunch.

Every Monday the children are treated to a class at the 911 call center and a tour of Decatur EMS. Monday, June 5, 27 kids were taken to the 911 call center to learn about the activation of the emergency response system. They learned how 911 works and how the dispatcher knows where they are. In addition to the call system, they tour the ambulances at Decatur EMS.

After the tours, the kids are treated to lunch and then delivered back home.
