Janice B. Kelly

June 1, 2017

Janice B. Kelly, aka Sweetie, Mama, Sis, Aunt Jan, and definitely her most prized title, Grandma, passed away June 1, 2017.  She lived in Bainbridge, Georgia at the time of her death, with her husband of 32 years, Remus W. Kelly, but she was loved by friends and family from all over the United States.

She was born to James and Marie Barr in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, April 30, 1948, at 12:50 p.m.  From the beginning, she was classified as “the good one” and “the favorite” according to her brother, Jimmy, and sister, Melba. Perhaps her parents were prophetic because Janice turned out to always be the good one in other’s lives.  She was always someone you could count on for a positive word and uplifting spirit, despite what life might have dealt her that day.  And it was this attribute that made many people think of her as a favorite in their world.

Janice was an independent woman with strong work ethic, who worked her way into management in her administrative career.  She loved to work and found a great deal of pride in a job well done.  Unfortunately, her working days were cut short by a debilitating disease in the late 90’s.  Her illness, and subsequent strokes, severely limited Janice’s physical life in the last 20 years, but her spirit, perseverance, and sense of humor would never fail.

Outside of work, Janice enjoyed low-key activities such as cross-stitch, a good game of backgammon, cribbage, or cards.  On a lazy afternoon, one might find her constructing puzzles or reading a book.  However, if you needed her on a Saturday afternoon in the fall, it might not be so low-key.  Like most people born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Janice was an avid Crimson Tide fan.  Although she was not able to attend, she never missed a game on television and took tremendous pride in her ability to help them pull out the wins!

Janice’s family is planning to celebrate her life Saturday June 3rd, 4-6pm, and welcomes you to attend.  The celebration will be at Cox Funeral Home, 202 West Street, Bainbridge, Georgia.  In lieu of flowers, Janice asked for love and support for her husband in the difficult weeks to come.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents, James and Marie Barr, and her brother, Jimmy Barr.  She is survived by her husband, Remus W. Kelly, son, Vince Hunter, daughter, Natalie Avant (Mac,) those thought of and loved like daughters, Kathy Hunter, Colleen Kaelin (David,) Christy Dwarika (Robert,) and Delayne Kice and seven grandchildren, Hunter and Hayden Marinaro, Jackson Avant, Kalee and Bria Hunter, and Matthew and Gabriella Dwarika. She is also survived by her precious shih-tzu, Sadie.
