Noah Cecil Spooner, 86, of Dothan, Ala., formerly of Donalsonville, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017.

The graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Oak City Cemetery with Rev. Stanley Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Online visitors may sign the guest register at

Noah Cecil Spooner was born February 6, 1931, in Quincy, Fla., the son of Noah Lee Spooner and Emma Geoghagan Spooner. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1951-1954. He married Clara Inez Moore in 1954. Cecil was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Cecil began his railroad career as a switchman in 1958, with Seaboard Coastline Railroad in Waycross, Ga.. He moved to Bainbridge in 1963, to work with Chattahoochee Industrial Railroad in Cedar Springs. In 1965 Cecil and his family moved to Donalsonville and he retired thirty years later as an engineer from CIRR. He was an avid fisherman and spent almost every day fishing until he moved to Dothan in 2000.

Survivors include his children, Jody Spooner and his wife, Tammy, of Dothan, and Kathy Poole and her husband, Phillip, of Lake Seminole, Ga.; his grandchildren, Seth Spooner and his wife, Eva, Judson Spooner, Casey Cater and Kayla, and Tracey Cater and his wife, Gentry; and his great-grandchildren, Blakeleigh Cater and Sanders Spooner. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 63 years, Clara Inez Moore Spooner.
