The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats scored a goal in each half, to propel them to a 2-0 victory over Dothan High School Tuesday night at the Westgate athletic complex in Dothan Alabama.

Bainbridge took a 1-0 lead, in the 32nd minute, as Bainbridge freshman midfielder Jamya Brinson touched in a deflected shot from just a few feet away from goal for the first score.

Bainbridge senior midfielder Ilean Marquez got behind the Dothan defense and crossed a shot from the right side towards the post of the Dothan goal. The Lady Tiger goal keeper quickly deflected the shot, but was unable to secure the ball, in which an alert Brinson followed up and scoring in the center of the goal.

The final Lady Cat score came in the last minute of the contest as senior midfielder Summer Boyd converted a penalty kick for a goal.

The play was set up as junior midfielder Paige Stegall got loose scrambling for the ball inside the Lady Tiger’s penalty area but a Dothan Defender fouled her that led to the penalty kick attempt.

“I thought we hustled well at times and made progressive strides, but still are lacking in consistency on the finishing end. We have been struggling with a few injuries and depth concerns, but overall thought we played hard.

I thought junior defender Lacey West played well, as did Marquez and Senior Midfielder Aida Diaz. Elizabeth Brinson and Boyd were steady on both ends, while Senior Goalkeeper Tori Sprenkle came up with 3 saves. Defenders Kamerin Timmons, Taylor Emmons, Mallory West, Sandy Baker, and Mary Mercer Reynolds helped thwart several attacks with determined play.”

“Jamya Brinson, Paige and Mckenna Stegall helped in the attack, along with Laodelecia Ford off of the bench.”  It definitely was needed win and effort following the 11-1 loss to a quick and talented Harris County squad last Friday. In that contest Boyd converted a penalty kick for the lone Lady Cat score.

The Lady Cats raised their overall record at 5-6 on the season, and traveled to Warner Robins Friday night in a region battle with the Warner Robins High School Lady Demons.
