Bearcat track and field jumps into second place at Fitzgerald meet

The Bainbridge Bearcat track and field team took second place at the Colony Bank Fitzgerald Invitational last Friday.

The Lady Cats team and a few Bearcats were not able to compete at the meet, but Coach Larry Clark still feels the team put up a strong performance.

“We are making pretty good progress,” Clark said.

Bainbridge pulled in three first place finishes in three different events. The 4-by-100 team of Trajan Harris, Tre Storey, Tim Addison and Roman Harrison won in a time of 49.53. The 4-by-400 team of La’Derrick Murphy, Rashad Odom, LaDerrick Williams and Jaylyn Scott came in first in a time of 3:35.50.

Jayln Scott showed his agility in the 300-meter hurdles with a first place time of 40.68.

Clark said everything was building toward winning the Region Championship in April.

“That is always our goal,” Clark said. “Just depending on how good other people are. Every time we run we are getting better.”

Clark touched on Bainbridge having to travel upwards of two hours to face strong competition outside of Thomas County Central. Long trips are difficult, but also help expose the athletes to top talent that will only push them to improve.

The Bearcats traveled more than two hours to compete in Fitzgerald last Friday.

The 4-by-100 team of Javon Mims, Lance Cosby, Zyon McGee and Dameon Pierce came in third with a time of 43.83. The 4-by-100 team of Jordon McMullien, Jaylyn Scott, LaDerrick Williams and Rashad Odom clocked in at 44.06, coming in sixth.

JaMarvin Bouie came in eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 46.17. Rashad Odom took on the 400-meter in a time of 53.60 to come in third place. LaDerrick Murphy came in eighth in the 400 with a time of 55.00.Jordon McMullien came in third in the 200 meter with a time of 23.26.

Jaylyn Scott took care of business in the 110 hurdles with a second place finish in 15.83. JaMarvin Bouie clocked in 16.47 in the 110 hurdles, finishing sixth.

Aaron Lewis came in fourth in the 800 meter with a 2:12.82 finish.

Stokes Moore got a sixth place finish in the 1600 meter with a time of 5:06.42. Haydn Griffin was seventh in the 1600 meter with a 5:08.04, and Efrain Diaz took sixth in the 3200 meter with a time of 11:07.29.

Jaylyn Scott took fourth in the high jump with a 5-foot-10 leap, and Rashad Odom finished seventh with a 5-foot-10 leap. Zyon McGee hit 21-foot-4 in the long jump for fourth and took second place in the triple jump with a huge 44-foot-9. Iran Brown threw the discus 113 feet for third place and Roman Harrison threw it 109-foot-9 for fifth place. Iran Brown took fifth in shot put with a 40-foot-9 throw.
