Kirbo Center will be hopping with Dancing with the Stars

Things will be hopping at the Kirbo Center tonight (Saturday, March 18) when the Rotary version of Dancing with the Stars takes the stage at 7:30 p.m.

If you attended last year, then you know how much fun it was and how hard the local “celebrities” worked to learn dance routines from “professionals.”

This year promises to be even better.

Things will definitely be hopping as several of the six teams will be doing their own versions of hip hop dancing and jazz numbers.

The teams will perform on the auditorium stage and vie for your votes and donations. Judges Michael Inlow, Allison Whitaker and Leigh Mullis Powell will choose a judges’ choice award scored on technique, choreography, execution and entertainment.  The audience can also cast votes for their favorite team by dropping money in the fundraising box of their choice placed in the lobby. That is the on-site fundraising award.  A separate award, the People’s Choice Award, will also be announced for the team that won the pre-event fundraising that ended Friday night at midnight.

Team members are: Ryan Phillips and Beth Dollar, who will perform a country dance; Jenny and Ridge Harper will do a hip hop number; Jay Palmer will also tackle a hip hop number with Liz Hill as his partner; Wayne Lambert and Savannah Miller will combine jazz and the Lindy Hop; Garrett Smith and Sabryna Dean will perform a hip hop and Denease Harrison and Daryl Hall will tackle a jazz number.

A reception for Rotarians, spouses and corporate sponsors will be held in the Solarium beginning at 6 p.m.  Dancing begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door and are $20.

This is the major fundraiser for the Bainbridge Rotary Club. This year’s proceeds go to purchase a Tele-medicine unit for John Johnson Elementary School.
