Lady Cat soccer defeats Cook County

The Bainbridge High School girls varsity soccer team traveled to Adel last Friday and came away with a hard fought 4-2 victory over the Cook County Lady Hornets.
The Lady Cats took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute when senior midfielder Summer Boyd received a pass from junior Midfielder Paige Stegall on the right side, and buried a sharp angled shot from 12-yards away.
Two minutes later, Lady Bearcat midfielder Ilean Marquez stole a failed clearance pass by the Hornet defense, and quickly shot and scored from 9-yards in the center of the penalty area giving Bainbridge a 2-0 advantage.
In the 32nd minute, Cook County cut the score to 2-1.
A Lady Hornet forward got behind the Bainbridge defense and scored from 17-yards out.
Quickly into the second half, Bainbridge got their third goal of the match, to take a 3-1 lead.
In the 42nd minute, Lady Bearcat senior Haley Thompson got outside the Lady Hornet defense and sent a crossing pass to the left side to Marquez who knocked in a shot on the back post, scoring from 6-yards out.
Cook County cut into the lead again in the 50th minute.
A ball that was being knocked around the Bainbridge penalty area eventually deflected in front of a Lady Hornet forward who scored on a shot from 12-yards away.
Bainbridge put the game out of reach in the 53rd minute when Marquez sent a pass to Bainbridge freshman forward Jamya Brinson who converted a shot for a score from 7-yards out, giving Bainbridge a 4-2 victory.
Bainbridge midfielders Thompson, Marquez and Stegall had great efforts in the win coach Chip Arial said. Goalkeeper Tori Sprenkle had seven saves in the win.
The Lady Bearcats increased their overall record at 2-1 on the season, with their lone loss being a 6-0 loss to region foe Veteran’s High School two weeks ago.
