The smell of smoke and barbecue will once again abound at the Earle May Boat Basin as teams compete in the fourth annual Flames on Flint competition during Rivertown Days. The festival will be held March 10-11 and feature some of the best barbecue teams from around the country.

Two-time World Grand Champion Johnny Trigg and his team the Smoking Triggers are retuning for the second straight year. Last year’s champion, Shake n’ Bake from St. Louis, Missouri, will also be returning. Roughly 85-percent of the teams competing this season are retuning from previous years. There is a total payout of $50,000 in the completion with the Grand Champion taking home $10,000 and the winner in each of the four meat categories taking home $1,000.

The Rivertown Days festival will kickoff at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 10, with the opening of the kids’ activities. Egg Water Palace will take the stage at 6:15 that evening. Relapse will headline Friday night and take the stage around 8 p.m.

There will also be 16 concession stands and 21 exhibits selling a variety of goods.

The activities will reopen at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Cori Norton will take the stage at 1:30 p.m.

The FireDogs will perform starting at 3 p.m. and the winners of Flames on the Flint will be announced starting at 4:30 p.m.

Registration for teams is still open and the Chamber of Commerce is still looking for volunteers to help throughout the festival. If you are interested in volunteering you can call the Chamber at  (229) 246-4774.
