Date set for Sports Hall of Fame Banquet

The Decatur County Sports Hall of Fame will be held on Saturday, Mar. 4, beginning with a reception at 6:00 p.m. followed by the awards program at 7:00 p.m.
This years reception honors four nominees, Sam Williams, Bobby Fiveash, Carol Floyd, and Terrilyn Edwards.
Sam Williams was the Bainbridge High School Head Football Coach from 1966-1969. He also served as an assistian coach before that, and was head golf coach during the 60s. As an assistant, Bainbridge had its first 10-0 season, and was region runner up to eventual State Champions Waycross in 1960 and 1961. As Head Coach, Bainbridge won its first region title in 1966. While Head Coach of the golf team, Williams’ team won the State Championship in 1968 and was state runnerup in 1966 and 1967.
Bobby Fiveash was a letterman at BAinbridge in football and track. He went on to play football at Florida State and was named the 1953 best player in the state of Florida. in the same year, he was also nam Honorable Mention All-American. He went on to play Canadian League Football.
Carol Floyd was a catalyst and driving force in recreation and high school tennis in Bainbridge. She played college tennis for the University of Georgia men’s team since there was not a womens team at the time. In Bainbridge her tireless work helped establish a competitive tennis program that produced several elite community and high school teams.
Terrilyn Edwards was a standout guard on the basektball teams at both Bainbridge High School and Armstrong State in the mid to late 1970s. At Bainbridge, she was an all-region player and during her time at Armstrong State she was named to the Armstrong State Hall of Fame.
