Lady Cat soccer defeats Doughetry in season opener

The Bainbridge High School girls’ varsity soccer team opened their season Thursday night in Albany by defeating the host Dougherty High School Lady Trojans 6-0.

The Lady Bearcats played aggressively in the attack and pinned the Lady Trojans on their half of the field the entire first half. Bainbridge led at the half 1-0 despite many chances just missing the mark. For the game, Bainbridge did not allow a shot on goal by the Lady Trojans.

Leading the way for the Lady Bearcats was senior forward Ilean Marquez who came up with a hat trick by scoring the first three goals for Bainbridge. Midfielders senior Elizabeth Brinson, who also had an assist, junior Paige Stegall and senior Summer Boyd contributed by scoring goals in the second half.

Senior Midfielder Aida Diaz contributed with two assists, while seniors Mallory West and Haley Thompson distributed the ball well at midfield.

Junior defenders Mary Mercer Reynolds, Lacey West and Kameron Timmons helped senior Goalkeeper Tori Sprenkle keep a clean sheet, by recovering loose passes and sending them back into the attack.

Seeing their first varsity game and contributing were freshmen Taylor Emmons, Sandy Baker, McKenna Stegall, Jamya Brinson and juniors Keonna Goss and Chelsea Hall.

Bainbridge will host a strong Veteran’s High School squad next Friday at Centennial field.
