Mrs. Adene McMullen Pope, age 85, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017, at her home. Services for Mrs. Pope will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at the Cadwell Chapel of Cox Funeral Home. The Rev. Stanley Phillips will be officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memory Gardens. Frank Williams, Jeremy Pope, Ray Glass, Gary Peed, Mark Phillips, and Jerry Henley will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 1 p.m.

Adene McMullen was born November 2, 1931, in Mayhaw, Georgia. Her parents, Frank McMullen and Emma Lovering McMullen, have both preceded her in death. Adene married George Washington (G.W.) Pope and they raised their family together. She worked as a presser at Jack Winter and Williamson Dickie Manufacturing Companies. Adene traveled all over and visited different churches and gospel singing events. She loved to dance to Country and Western music. Adene loved to gather with extended family and attend family reunions. A great cook, the family was invited to come gather at her house on Sundays and holidays. Her biscuits and chocolate syrup were outstanding. Adene was all about her family. She loved and cherished each and every member. Adene McMullen Pope, a loving, supportive, generous sibling, mother, grandmother, and friend, will be missed by all who knew her.

Adene Pope is survived by her loving companion, J. E. Roland; children, Emma Jean Thompson and James Thomas Pope, both of Bainbridge; grandchildren, Shana Pope Wallace and husband, Chris of Dothan, Alabama, Heather Olivia Clayton of Bainbridge, Jeremy James Pope and wife, Rita of Dothan, Laura Jean Thompson of Bainbridge and Eric Spooner of Bainbridge; great-grandchildren, Jessica Adams Peed, Ashley Adams, Lauren Adams Phillips, and Cayman Pope; great-great-grandchildren, Collins Peed, Ann Collier Peed, and Eva Katherine Phillips. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings, Robert E. Glass, Louise Williams, Jimmy Lee McMullen, J. V. (Buddy) McMullen and Sam McMullen.
