BMS girls’ basketball ends season with win

The Bainbridge Middle School girls’ basketball finished its season on a high note with a 37-30 victory over the Macintyre Park Lady Bulldogs. The win avenged a 39-32 loss that the Lady Cats suffered at Macintyre Park the week before.

Bainbridge trailed 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, but battled back in the second to take a 18-13 lead at halftime. Macintyre Park cut the deficit to five at the end of the third quarter, but Bainbridge was able to hold on for the win outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 11-8 in the fourth quarter.

Taralyn Brown was the leading scorer for Bainbridge with 13 points. Detavia Salter was second with 9 points. Carmen Fillingame had six, Anndrea Porter and Taniah Register each had two and Marquita Jakes had five. The leading scorer for Macintyre Park had 12.

In the previous meeting between the two teams, Macintyre Park took an early 15-5 lead at the end of the first. Bainbridge was able to cut the Lady Bulldogs’ lead to seven at halftime, but Macintyre Park outscored them 13-6 in the third to stretch the lead back to 11. The Lady Cats attempted to rally in the fourth quarter outscoring Macintyre Park 14-7. They were unable to fully close the gap though and lost 39-32.

Register was the leading scorer in the game for Bainbridge with 11. Brown added seven, Fillingame had seven, Salter had four and Jakes had two. The leading scorer for Macintyre Park had 21.

Bainbridge finished the season with a 4-9 record.
