Lady Cougars defeat Highland with late comeback

The Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougar’s basketball team escaped a close game with a win on Thursday, Jan. 19, against Highlands Christian, 31-28.

The game was tight from tip-off. The first half was next in neck, with each team winning one quarter. Grace claimed the first quarter 7-4, while Highlands responded by taking the second quarter 9-6. The score was tied at 13 all when the teams headed into the locker room for halftime.

The second half saw the evenly matched teams continue their first half struggle to get ahead. Grace went down in the third, losing the quarter 11-8 to put Highland Christian up 24-21. Grace responded in the fourth however, and the Lady Cougars defense came up in a big way to hold Highlands to only 4 points while Grace scored 10 to seal the game 31-28 for Grace.

Mikey Harrell led the scoring for Grace with 13 points, and led in rebounding with 7.  Addie Elkins was the second leading scorer with 6 points.

The Lady Cougar’s next game is Friday, Jan. 27, at home against Georgia Christian.
