Gary Thomas Reakes, 85, of Booster Club Road, Bainbridge, Georgia, passed away suddenly Sunday, January 8, 2017. He was born January 19, 1931, in Flint, Michigan, the only child of the late Vivian and George Reakes. Gary attended high school in Benton Harbor. He was a talented high school athlete and lettered in basketball, football and track. Gary was an accomplished trumpet player.
Gary is survived by his devoted wife Jean Ullrich Reakes and beloved children William “Bill” Reakes of Chattahoochee, Florida; Mark (Kathy) Reakes of Satellite Beach, Florida; Alice Reakes of Gainesville, Florida, and Patrick (Evelyn) Reakes of Gainesville, Florida. Gary also had four grandchildren: Gary Reakes, Benjamin Farkash, Jennifer Deegan and Daniel Reakes.
Gary aka “GTR” or βThe Boss,β had a successful career in the automobile business, which provided the opportunity for he and Jean to enjoy many adventures and travels together. They raised cattle in central Florida; boated the waterways of Alabama, Georgia and Florida, and traveled to China, England, Ireland, Germany and Spain. After exploring the southeast in their motor home, they retired to Carrabelle, Florida, before moving to the shores of Lake Seminole, Georgia. Gary’s faithful dogs and his beloved Florida Gators brought him great joy in his later years. Gator game days will never be the same without him.
A service honoring the life of Gary T. Reakes will held Thursday, January 19th, 2017, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 10 W. King Street, Quincy, Florida, with Father John Wesley officiating. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Quincy, Florida.
