Westwoood defeats Grace 70-47

The Grace Christian Academy men’s basketball team lost to Westwood Academy on Friday, Jan. 6, 70-47. The first quarter saw Grace build a comfortable lead by then Westwood stormed back and Grace could not keep up.

It was 16-7 at the end of the first quarter with Grace on top. The game was off to a good start but Grace coughed up 15 points in the second quarter, while only scoring 14.

The score at half was 30-22 with Grace leading. Westwood put a stop to that with a 26 point third quarter and held Grace to only 8 points. Going into the fourth, Grace trailed 48-37.

Westwood kept their foot on the gas for the fourth quarter, scoring 22 points while Grace only scored 10.

The difference good first half was not enough to keep Grace in the game. Final score: Westwood 70, GCA 47.

“We played an extremely good first half. We shot the ball well and played great defense. Nate (Walton) and Sam (McRae) had an excellent half, and provided balanced scoring inside and out,” said GCA Coach Mallory McRae. “The second half was a different story. Westwood really shot the ball well and we were not able to get anything going. We have got to learn to play a full four quarters.”

Sam McRae and Nate Walton both finished with 20 points on the night ting each other for leading scorer.

Walton grabbed 13 rebounds as well, claiming the only double-double for the night.
