The Grace Christian Academy boy’s basketball team was beat at home by Crisp Academy on Tuesday, Jan. 3, with a final score of 72-49. The lopsided score is a story of two quarters, the Cougars hung in there in the first and fourth quarters but Crisp ran away with it in the second and third quarters.
At the end of the first quarter, Grace was leading Crisp 17-15. Then fatigue struck, and Crisp pulled away in the second quarter after putting up 23 points to Grace’s 9. At halftime the score was 25-38 in favor of Crisp.
“Our guys played a great first quarter. They got tired after that and our defense suffered as a result.” Said Coach McRae. “This was our first game back after a 2 1/2 week break. I think we will see improvement as we get back in shape and get some practices under our belt.”
Halftime did not give the Cougars any rest. The team came out and put up 9 points yet again, and gave up 18. There was a sign of life in the fourth quarter however. The Grace boy’s put up 14 points while only giving up 16, but it was to late to salvage the score.
Sam McRae led Grace in scoring with 24 points. He went nine for 21 from the field, shooting 42%, and three for three from behind the arc. Only three other Cougars managed to score. Caleb Carr was second in scoring with 9 points, while Nate Walton and Jared Duke contributed 8 points each.
McRae snagged seven total rebounds and snatched seven steals, but the rest of the team lagged behind on defense.
“Crisp is a great team. Hopefully next time we play them it will be a different game,” Said Coach McRae.
Grace’s next game is Friday, Jan. 6, against Westwood in Camilla, Georgia.
