Benjamin Franklin Nix was born December 22, 1970, in Donalsonville, Ga., the son of William Franklin Nix and Iona Elizabeth Batchelor Nix. Ben graduated from Wakulla High School. He lived most of his life in southwest Georgia serving as a law enforcement officer for the Meigs Police Department, Grady County Sheriff’s Office and Miller County Sheriff’s Office. Ben married Christy Michele Donley in 2006. He was of Christian faith.

Ben loved the outdoors, mainly when he could fish, hunt, camp or operate his metal detector. He collected coins and had an eye for antiques. Ben had quite a sense of humor and always seemed to lighten the mood when a difficult situation arose. He had a passion for helping others especially during his favorite time of the year, Christmas. He was known for being “all in”, giving 100% of his commitment and effort, to anything he tackled. Ben was devoted to his family and always enjoyed spending time with them. His eyes never sparkled like the day he laid eyes on his daughter for the very first time.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Michele D. Nix of Colquitt; his children, Samantha Nix and Colby Griffin both of Colquitt, and Autumn Harper Williams of Alabama; his mother, Iona Nix of Bainbridge, Ga.; and his brother, Chip Nix and his wife, Cheryl, also of Bainbridge; his uncle, Jarrat Nix of Bainbridge; and his two grandchildren. Ben was preceded in death by his father, Billy Nix, and his sister, Billie Joe Nix.
