Bainbridge Little Theatre has chosen “Meet Me in St. Louis,” a classic musical comedy that is perfect for the Christmas season. Described as a show for the whole family, it is based on the 1944 movie of the same name, starring Judy Garland. It is all about the Smith family and their experiences as they get ready for the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. It was also a movie for television released in 1959 starring Jeanne Crain.

Written by Hugh Wheeler, with songs by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane, the local production is under the direction of Martha Mobley.

She describes it as definitely heartwarming, a beautiful play all about family. She said it also passed the test with the cast, as even the teenagers like it, although it is a vintage play, complete with vintage costumes.

Since it is a family show, it seems only appropriate that there are several cast members who have other family members in the production.

The Smith family consists of Joe Livingston as the father, Alonso Smith; Jenna Chambless as the mother, Anna Smith; Logan Moorhead as the son Lon; the daughters are portrayed by Sarah Michael Farrington, Leigh Powell, Alaiya Schuyler, and Lanie Gay; Mark Jones is Grandpa Prophater; and Shanell Schuyler is Katie, the maid.

Supporting actors are Michael Brown, Quest Brown, Rachel Rentz, Devon Poole, Art Hart, Eric Gay, (who plays a double role), Eli Poche, and Seth Jones.

Michael Inlow is musical director, aided by Zack Powell on drums. Chorus members are: Lollie Gay, Isabella Beam, Adia Brannan, Aicha Moustapha, Edward Moorhead and Gail Jones. The song chart includes: the title song, Meet Me in St. Louis, The Boy Next Door, A Raving Beauty, Whenever I’m with You, A Day in New York, and probably the most memorable songs are The Trolley Song, and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.
