Diana Atkinson has been hired as the new program director at the Bainbridge YMCA. She officially came aboard on Nov. 15.
Atkinson previously worked with the City of Bainbridge Leisure Services department overseeing baseball, aquatics, football, boot camps, planning and facilitating events on behalf of the City.
According to the YMCA, her many successful years of experience and training make her uniquely qualified to further develop and strengthen the Y’s youth sports program.
Growing up here in Decatur County in a time when most youth activities were centered on one’s home, Atkinson began to realize how few athletic opportunities were available for girls. She joined and played for years on a homegrown girls softball team. Eventually, her career path led her to planning and managing sporting activities. Many local youth have been impacted by her guidance, and she hopes to continue that impact as the program director at the YMCA.
“I realize how important physical activity is, and that it brings people together.” Atkinson said. “And you know, I do love the youngins.”
