Hey everyone. My name is John Simpson and I am joining the reporting staff at The Post-Searchlight. I am excited to start working with and meeting the people around town. I strive to bring you honest and accurate accounts of all the news that happens in Bainbridge and Decatur County.

My hometown is Vestavia Hills, Alabama, a small town located just outside of Birmingham.  Growing up, I attended Vestavia Hills High School where I played basketball. Then it was off to the University of Alabama where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a minor in American Studies.

I was drawn to journalism as a way to make a career out of my two big interests; culture and sports.

Being raised close to a city of Birmingham’s size, I was exposed to all types of different music and sporting events from birth. My parents are also very big music enthusiasts so I grew up with it all around me. From that, I gained a love of music and sports very early on. That love of music made me realize how culture affects people and really peaked my interest in that relationship.

That being said, the only musical instrument I can play is a radio and my sports career ended in high school. So, I chose to pursue a career in journalism.

Aside from those interests, I do a lot of reading in my spare time. I love reading and learning about the history of different areas and how that history affects people today.

I look forward to learning about the town and all the people in it.  Bainbridge is a unique area that satisfies all my interests in life. There is a love of sports, a small town culture, and a significant amount of history here.  I hope to cover as much as possible to get to know the city better and bring you the news that affects you.
