Bainbridge’s bye week wasn’t quite enough to prepare for Thomas County Central.

The Yellow Jackets (6-3, 2-1)  beat the Bearcats (2-5, 1-1) in Thomasville Friday night 17-6, attacking Bainbridge with a veer offense that quickly chipped away at the clock and put points on the board with two big plays.

TCC scored first with two seconds left on the clock in the first quarter on a 44-yard touchdown run from quarterback Kelias Williams.

On the Yellow Jackets’ next drive, TCC found themselves on their own 8-yard line. Williams threw a pass that hit receiver Quintavius Cooksey for a 92-yard touchdown, and the Bearcats were down 14-0 with just under 10 minutes left on the clock in the second quarter.

Bainbridge attempted a field goal by kicker Caleb Harris in the first quarter, but the kick didn’t have enough juice and wasn’t able to cross the goal post. TCC hit a 37-yard field goal in the third quarter to get up 17-0.

Bainbridge’s touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a pass play from Kerenski Williams to Aaron Spivie, who was wide open for the catch. Bainbridge was down 17-6, and the Bearcats tried to get the ball back to score again, but weren’t able to stop TCC from running out the clock to end the game.

Williams rushed for 124 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown on the ground. He was 6-for-13 passing for 117 yards and a touchdown.

Bainbridge’s big rusher was Dameon Pierce, who rushed for 106 yards on 21 carries.

Quarterback Brett McLaughlin was pulled in the second quarter with a foot injury, and backup quarterback Mark Loeffler stepped in to help lead the Bearcats through the rest of the game.

Loeffler was 6-for-10 for 40 yards passing.

Bainbridge is back in action next Friday against Harris County in a Region 1-AAAAA matchup. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Harris County.
