The Grace Christian Academy volleyball team fell to Valwood School in the regular season finale Thursday evening. Valwood defeated GCA in straight sets on the Lady Cougar’s senior night.

Seniors Sarah Castoro, McKenzie Brown, Addie Elkins and Kailtyn Holcombe were honored before the match.

“A lot was riding on the seniors,” head coach Candice Walker said. “I thought they handled it very well.”

The two teams battled in a close first set, but Valwood came out on top 25-19. In the second set Valwood won 25-11 and they clinched the match with a 25-16 victory in the third.

“Valwood is first in the region,” Walker said. “To come up against them and the girls play as hard as they did shows a lot.”

The seniors led the Lady Cougars in the match. Castoro had six kills, Holcombe had five kills and two blocks and Brown had two kills.

“All of my seniors worked hard together to try to do their best against this team,” Walker said. “To have done what they’ve done is an accomplishment.”

The GISA state tournament will take place Oct. 21-24.
