Lady Cats fall to Veterans

The Lady Cats offense stumbled in key moments Friday evening as they fell to Veterans 8-2 in a region contest. Bainbridge (6-8) out hit Veterans 10-8 in the game, but they struggled to capitalize by bringing runners across to score.

As a team, the Lady Cats went 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left 12 runners on base in the game.

Mabry-Grace Briggs did her part to keep Bainbridge in the game as she went 4-4 including a second inning home run that she sent over the wall in left center. The homer tied the game at 1-1 after Veterans had taken an early lead in the bottom of the first.

The Lady Cats took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth after loading the bases with only one out in the inning. McKynleigh Harrell drove in the run on a hard hit ground ball to third base. The Veteran’s fielder chose to make a play at third base for the second out of the inning, which allowed CT Jones to score from third. Abigail Gardner lined out to center to end the inning, stranding two Lady Cat runners on base.

Veterans tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth and then added three more runs in bottom of the fifth and the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and put the game away.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fell to 1-5 in region play with two region games remaining.

They traveled to Thomas County Central on Tuesday and visit Warner Robbins on Friday.
