The Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars volleyball went 1-2 on the weekend during a tournament at North Florida Christian School in Tallahassee. The Lady Cougars were undefeated entering the weekend and had only lost one set all year, but they couldn’t keep the momentum going.

GCA started the tournament with a straight set victory over Wakulla. They took the first set 25-8 and continued their dominance throughout the match taking the second set 25-7 and the third set 25-6.  Abby Mills led the Lady Cougars to victory with seven digs and 14 kills in the match. Sarah Castoro had another strong all-around performance with seven digs, four kills and six aces.

In their next match the Lady Cougars suffered their first defeat of the season when they lost in straight sets to Christ Church. GCA dropped both of the first two sets 12-25 and then lost the third set 9-25.

Mills had another strong performance in the loss as she filled up the stat sheet with 15 digs, three assists and 14 kills, Mikey Harrell added 12 digs and Kaitlyn Holcombe had four blocks, three digs and four kills.

In their final match of the tournament GCA faced the host North Florida Christian team that they had beaten in three tightly contested sets early in the week. The Lady Eagles came out on top in the rematch as they swept the Lady Cougars in straight sets, 25-20, 25-16 and 25-14. Castoro led the team with 10 kills in the match, but they couldn’t recapture the comeback magic that enabled them to come away with the win in the team’s earlier meeting.

GCA traveled to Valwood School in Valdosta on Tuesday. They then travel to Quincy to face RF Munroe on Oct. 4 and conclude their regular season on Oct. 6 with a home game against Valwood School.
