Emily Hunter Mathews, age 78, of Iron City, Ga., passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 20, 2016 at her residence.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mathews were held on Thursday morning, Sept. 22, 2016, at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. James Scarborough officiating.  Interment followed in Olive Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mathews was born on August 8, 1938, in Iron City, Ga., to Martin and Clara Williams Hunter.  She was a bus driver with the Seminole County Board of Education for 43 years, 40 as a full-time driver and 3 years as a part-time driver.  Mrs. Mathews loved “her school bus children”, but she especially loved her family and friends and spending time with them.  Her favorite place and pastime may have just been spending time on her back porch.  She was a member of Highway Freewill Baptist Church in Brinson, GA.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Dale Mathews of Iron City, Darlene Morris and husband Jim of Bainbridge, Ga. and Debra McLendon and husband Russell of Iron City.  Mrs. Mathews is also survived by three grandchildren, David Mathews, Jr. of Rocky Point, NY, Brian Smith and his wife Jeanny of Massapequa, NY, and Christie Wynn-Scott of Iron City; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Lauren Mathews, Brandon Mathews, and Megan Mathews of Rocky Point, NY, Sebastian Smith and Svjetlana Smith of Massapequa, NY, and McKayla Scott and Brody Scott of Iron City.

Mrs. Mathews was preceded in death by her parents, Martin Hunter and Clara Williams Hunter; her husband, Edward Mathews; her brother, Edgar Hunter; and two sons, David Mathews, Sr. and Donald Mathews.
