The 2016 Dylan Faircloth Memorial Scholarship for Duke Tip recipient Sandy Baker was able to use the scholarship to attend a summer program at the Duke University East campus.

Bennett Enfinger received the 2016 Dylan Reid Faircloth The First Memorial Cross Country Scholarship which will help pay for his first year at Bainbridge State College.

“It pretty much paid for everything along with HOPE,” he said. “Its absolutely huge. To be able to not worry about the financial side of your college with as much stress as you’re already under with your school work its very nice and helpful.”

To apply for the scholarship, Enfinger had to write an essay about the impact that running cross country had on his life.

“I ran cross-country from seventh grade through my senior year,” Enfinger said. “I wrote about I wasn’t exactly the best runner on the team at first, but by training hard how it taught me leadership skills and about hard work.”

The two scholarships are given in the memory of former Bainbridge High cross-country runner Dylan Faircloth who died in a car accident in 2010.

“The only thing that helps me in my grief is to be able to help others,” June Faircloth said. “To be able to know that I am impacting the lives of the children that also are a part of these programs is a way of me honoring Dylan’s memory.”

The Epic 5K Challenge is open to individuals and middle and high school cross country teams. The registration fee for an individual is $25. Registration for a high school team costs $60 and a middle school team costs $30. Participants can register online at epicday.wixsite.com/home.

The foundation will also be holding a fundraiser at Dairy Queen on Sept. 27.
