Maxine Baker Horton, 91, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Friday, August 12, 2016.

The graveside funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 15, 2016, at Rock Bluff Cemetery near Bristol, Fla., with Bruce Wilkes, Sherry Wilkes, Jim Smith and Katelyn Smith officiating.

Maxine Baker was born May 8, 1925, in Decatur County, the daughter of Willie Hollis Baker and Ellie Mae Goodson Baker. Maxine lived most of her life in Bainbridge and was a member of Bainbridge First United Methodist Church.

Maxine was a loving person who put others before herself. She was a hard worker and a great cook. Maxine was dubbed the “family historian” and always had a story to share. She exercised her mind with puzzles, books, Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right and cheering on the Atlanta Braves.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Horton Smith and her husband, Jim, of Waxahachie, Texas; her sister, Willie Iris Long of Texas; her grandchildren, Ashley, Trey and Jimmy; her great-grandchildren, Harper and Peyton and many nieces and nephews.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Red Johnson, Delcie Barber, Lorene Powell and Myrtice Messer.
