The newly founded Memories Car Club is off to a huge start, successfully holding their first car show and a multiple prize drawings last Friday.
Prizes included a Boyd’s BBQ gift card that went to Glenna Thorton, a Bonnie Bluehouse gift card that was handed to Mark Mitchell and three different sets of tools donated from local auto stores that were won by Tim Ray, Ronnie Cook and Eric Marshall.
A 50/50 drawing was also held, where the winner gets half of the proceeds made from the ticket sales. Jimmy Slocumb’s name was pulled for $85.
Memories Car Club president Denise Webb was ecstatic about the support she has received in the club’s infancy.
“It touches my heart, because I know our town has big a heart,” Webb said. “You just have to have somebody out there to push it. There are so many that have come up to me and asked what they could do. It means so much that I have a group of people standing strong behind me.”
Other proceeds from the ticket sales will go toward buying school supplies for a local elementary school. With the school year just starting, the club thought it was the perfect opportunity to donate items some students may not be able to afford.
“We just think that the kids need this extra boost. Sometimes they can’t always buy this stuff, and it ends up back on the teachers,” Webb said.
Memories Car Club is planning future events that will benefit other areas of Decatur County. Its next meeting is Thursday, Aug. 18, at 6 p.m. at LTL Flowers and Gifts.
